Pisces Full Moon: September 10

The Pisces Full Moon at 5:59AM ET on Saturday, September 10, is a portal to our past that swings open the door to what’s been left unresolved over the last two years in the mutable area of life. Both luminaries are ruled by retrograde planets: the Sun in Virgo by Mercury, and the Moon at 17°41 Pisces by Jupiter in Aries. Mercury is actually standing completely still in the sky and is not moving in any direction.

Mercury stationed retrograde at 8°55′ Libra at 11:38PM ET on Friday, September 9, putting a halt to all our Virgo season perfect plans. The Sun and Moon are in a mutable t-square with Mars who entered its retrograde shadow at 08°37′ Gemini on September 4. Full Moons are moments of culmination, but nothing about this says completion. We may feel full but we are not done. In fact, we are just beginning.

The Pisces New Moon on March 2, was full of hope due to its blessed conjunction with Jupiter. The cosmic giver of gifts bestowed dreams at that time. Visions that will take years to come to fruition. We consider what has transpired over the last 6 months, not as a final resting place but more as a crucial waystation. Commerce, communication, and even people get held up when Mercury goes retrograde.

We should not expect to move forward for the next several months. In fact, it might feel like we’re traveling backwards. But this is not regression in the sense of becoming more immature. Pisces is all about the wisdom of the heart. Sometimes we have to pause, and go deep into an issue in order to get to the center. Only once the light of awareness has pierced the middle can the unraveling process begin. The Pisces Full Moon is inviting us to come undone in the best way. By unraveling from the place we got snared, we can restitch ourselves back together more beautifully.

The Sun at 18°47′ Virgo trines Uranus on Sunday, September 11, providing illumination into what could otherwise be a confusing time. The Moon in conjunction with Neptune at 24°12′ Pisces adds an ethereal quality to this lunation. We may feel as if we’re beginning a long journey across a foggy ocean. That exploration will take each of us across unfamiliar terrain. Whether that be a physical distance, the seas of love, or the fathomless depths of our subconscious. Mercury will be retrograde until October 2, when it stations direct at 24°12′ Virgo across from Neptune.

Mercury spends the rest of Virgo season moving back through the first decan of Libra until it meets the Sun in a glorious embrace at the Autumn Equinox on September 22. The Piscian impulse to draw us closer to the divine through spiritual exploration. It is the artistic and imaginative balance to Virgo’s mundane, and sometimes myopic, approach to life. We seek the sublime in Pisces pool, but Virgo knows that enlightenment is not an overnight awakening. It is attained through daily practices throughout one’s lifetime of being present for what is. Mercury will not depart its retrograde shadow until October 17. Two weeks later Mars will retrograde at 25°37′ Gemini on October 30, and not station direct until 2023. This is the long journey your awareness is sensing into. But we need not try and tackle that all at once. Mutable signs take life in bits and pieces where it can remain manageable.

Over the next 12 days, we can explore the interplay between questions and answers, wonder and faith, doubt and belief, knowledge and truth. Puzzle over it all. Mars in Gemini needs a task, but not because you’re trying to get anywhere. Simply because that is what you’re here to do as a human. It is the process of finding our way to that elusive balance that Virgo season is always leading us toward. Full Moon (and Mercury retrograde) blessings.
